Everyone knows some stuff about budgies e.g. they're a bird, they eat birdseed, and squawk a lot. But if you're going to get a budgie you might need to know a little more than that. I myself have a budgie named Ziggy, (cutest budgie in the world) and know what to do to give him good care to keep him happy. I clean out his cage once a week and put fresh paper towel/newspaper in the bottom. I change his water daily and his birdseed regularly. Don't think that just because they're small they don't take any hard work, because trust me, there is hard work involved. But there's also a cute companion who will chatter away once you get to know them, in budgie language-and if you're lucky enough-human language. So with these few tips you can live happily ever after with your budgie.
-don't feed anything to them that you have partly eaten, as human saliva is poisonous to budgies
-you need to get a relatively large cage for them, with plenty of space to fly around, or even better, buy/make an aviary
-supply some toys for them such as an abacus, a bell, a little hoop swing, and things like that, but don't overcrowd the cage with toys
-spend time talking to your budgie so he/she will get to know you and not be afraid of you
-once you can take your budgie out of the cage give him a few hours each week to fly around the house
When choosing your budgie remember...
-Don't choose your budgie from a shop that has lots of birds crowded in one cage, as this can spread sickness and cause illness itself
-look at the birds in the cage before you buy one, do the budgies look happy? Do they have a fair amount of space?
-Look at the shop itself and other animals in it, how the shop is run, whether the animals look healthy and happy, and whether the staff look after the animals correctly
If you remember these tips you will probably choose a healthy companion who will bring laughter and joy to you. Budgies are great pets to look after, and are a perfect pet.
